How To Avoid An Eyebrow Tattooing Disaster

Let’s face it we have all had those beauty disaster moments, bad makeup days, a dodgy waxing job, but what about those of you who have had a bad tattoo. Having a bad wax, bad makeup, or a bad haircut happens and the best part about this is you can either grow it out or wash it off, but for something more permanent than just a bad wax such as a bad tattoo well this one can tend to stick around for a little while. Cosmetic tattooing has become as popular as getting your hair done and with this being said, disasters can come with the territory.

Ursula Cervellone, founder of Feather Brow Couture, has seen the good the bad and the ugly when it comes to eyebrow feathering, and believe it or not she sees almost one client a day who requires an eyebrow correction services. Ursula has noticed a lot of women are quite distressed when they come into her salon with the outcome of their cosmetic tattooing and she is pleased to advise that there are ways around it and if you are a woman who has been left with a disaster above your eyes. Women believe that they will be left with uneven, patchy brows and a botched victim for the next few years. Ursula believes there is hope and can give some light on the fact that a bad brow job can be repaired – pending on how extensive the damage is. Ursula believes if you are going to invest in a long term cosmetic treatment you are best to do your research. Remember this is someone tattooing your face so if there are mistakes there is definitely no hiding it.

For those of you who are considering cosmetic tattooing Ursula has given us some quick tips to look out for before choosing your brow specialist.

The price isn’t always right

In everyday life we are always bargaining and trying to find the cheaper bag or pair of shoes to save a quick buck. When it comes to cosmetic tattoos, this statement is a little different. As stated before doing your research is very important and just because you may find a salon who is $300 dollars cheaper than the next salon you were looking at does not mean you should try and make a great saving. Especially when it comes to your face, spending that little extra for a great result for a more high end brow studio is a far better investment than saving a couple of hundred and walking out with two tree trunks  on your forehead which will end up costing more in the long run after you receive correction work. Do your research, have a consultation first. A decent pair of brows should not cost $200 dollars, be very wary of this.

Know your technician

An establish brow studio will have many examples of their work they have completed. It’s really important to look at a portfolio of the technician you are considering to see you are happy with their work, and if they are able to achieve the look you are after. If you are after a very natural appearance this is very important as this can be harder to master, be sure to check more than 10 examples of straight after the tattoo and a healed version as well, before going ahead with anyone. It’s all good and well to see a tattoo straight after it’s finished, but the real artwork is not ready until it is healed which is when you definitely want to see the results. If someone is not willing to show you their results, see this as a warning sign and do not go ahead. You want to be 100% confident with your technician, after all they are leaving something quiet permanent for the next few years on your face.

Check their credentials

Make sure your technician has had the training to perform the right procedure, there is more to eyebrow feathering than just filling in the blanks. A technician needs to be able to choose the right pigments, the correct shape for your face and the correct technique to achieve a natural brow. A technician who has received the right training will be up to date on all the correct methods and procedures as well. Another thing you want to look out for is that your brow technician of choice has a clean and sterilised workplace. Micro blading is still a form of tattooing so new clean needles/blades are to be used. Look at reviews, reviews don’t lie. See other people’s experiences.

The consultation

When you make the step to have a consultation, make sure you show example of what you are hoping to expect to see whether it’s achievable that way you have realistic expectations. Remember it’s not one eye brow fits all so it’s better to go with your natural brow flow and work on enhancing the shape. In most cases. Your brows are sisters not twins so you want to work on correcting any in balances in your symmetry. You will never get two identical brows but you want to achieve the most natural balance.

The brows are sitting on top of your skull, muscles and fat pads of the face and either side of your face differs greatly so your technician is working with this not just your brows that’s why template brows just never work. So have realistic expectations. Your eyebrow technique should draw and measure your brows before commencing any tattoo work. Make sure your completely happy with the shape drawn and always sit upright when doing the assessment. Never do the brow shape laying flat as your brow shape alters once you sit up and open your eyes. The surrounding eyebrow muscles change from laying flat to being upright when expressing.

When choosing colour always make sure your happy and shown the colour on your skin first. It’s always dark the first 10 days till your skin heals over the tattoo revealing the true pigment colour. Always be safe don’t go to dark, if you want play it safe stick to more soft and natural and build on the colour in your touch ups, You can always darken it but not lighten it so keep that in mind when choosing the right colour.

Aftercare

Make sure the right after care instructions have been instructed to you. It’s the most crucial part of the healed result so make sure you adhere to them. Keeping brows dry and free from water or sweat for 7-10 days.  Adequate healing cream is provided such as Protat Tattoo Aftercare Cream. This is great for hydration and locking in the tattoo. You want to avoid the tattoo from drying out and scabbing. Cosmetic brow tattooing and feathering is definitely a science and a skill.
