Obesity: New study doubts healthy Overweight

That slightly Overweight is not always associated with negative consequences for health, faith, still many. Mistakenly – as a new American study shows that women who are overweight or obese, but otherwise healthy, and have diseases, the investigation is still at an increased risk for cardiovascular disease.

Overweight is never really healthy

The large-scale study observed the health of 90.257 American women over a period of up to 30 years. The result: Those with Obesity were more likely to have a stroke or a heart attack, even if they had normal blood pressure, and cholesterol values of the hangar deck and not diabetics.

Study participants who were overweight or obese (BMIüber 25 or 30), but none of the above metabolic disorders had developed, nevertheless, 20, or 39 percent more likely to have cardiovascular disease than women with normal weight (BMI 18.5-24.9), the metabolic were healthy.

The research team concludes, therefore, in the magazine “The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology journal”, in which the study was published: “healthy obesity is not harmless”.

Results not all humans

The authors of the study stressed, however, that the results showed more of a connection, as cause and effect of diseases.

In addition to health problems mainly in the case of white women, which is why the results are not one-to-one would be to other ethnic groups or men-transferable.

“Our large cohort study confirms that metabolically healthy Obesity is not a harmless disease and women, the disease for decades, free of the metabolism, an increased risk for cardiovascular problems,” says study leader Prof. Matthias Schulze, from the German Institute for nutritional research Potsdam-Rehbrücke.

Women are affected generally

The experts also found that the majority of women with increasing age, developed either hypertension, cholesterol excess, or Diabetes – also, if you were a normal weight.

Therefore, Schulze addressed to all women: “Our results show how important it is to prevent the emergence of metabolic diseases.

Even people with good metabolic health can benefit from early behavioral adaptation: Who pays attention to his diet and be physically active, can better protect themselves from the deterioration of metabolic health.”
