Almost 15% of men believe that once sex has started, it’s not possible for someone to revoke their consent, according to new research.
Given that all men should understand that either participant is legally entitled to revoke their consent during sex and ignoring that fact constitutes rape, that statistic is 15% too high.
Worryingly, the survey of 1000 people by peer-to-peer learning platform StudySoup also found that 12% of women admitted to the same belief.
Although the majority of respondents correctly agreed that either party is able to withdraw consent at any point during a sexual encounter, it does highlight the contentious misconceptions around the subject.
