The sunshine supplement, however, has been proven to have multiple health benefits. For instance, medical doctor Anna Klepchukova has verified that vitamin D can combat hypertension (i.e. high blood pressure). High blood pressure is classified as a reading of 140/90mmHg or higher, which reveals the force at which blood is thumping against artery walls. Worryingly, one third of British adults have high blood pressure, the NHS stated.
Moreover, high blood pressure is linked to life-threatening health conditions, such as:
- Heart attacks
- Strokes
- Heart failure
- Kidney disease.
Dr Klepchukova – the Chief Medical Officer for Flo Health – also certified that vitamin D has been proven to combat heart disease.
Heart disease – a major cause of death in the UK – causes: chest pain, shortness of breath, and nausea.
The condition develops when fatty deposits (known as atheroma) embed along artery walls, causing the passageway of blood to narrow.
Restricted blood flow increases blood pressure and restricts the supply of oxygen to vital organs, such as the heart.
Heart disease is dangerous because it can cause a heart attack or stroke.
Vitamin D supplementation has been proven to combat:
- Osteoporosis
- Weight gain
- Diabetes
- Depression
- Some types of cancer.
In addition, vitamin D supplementation is heralded as a “natural” supplement to help ease peri-menopausal symptoms.
The NHS stated: “During the autumn and winter, you need to get vitamin D from your diet.”
This is because “the sun is not strong enough for the body to make vitamin D” during this period.
While vitamin D is present in foods – such as: salmon, sardines, herring and mackerel – the NHS still recommend everybody to take a daily supplement.
Medical News Today concurred that vitamin D supplementation can support diabetes management.
The vitamin is said to regulate insulin levels, support cardiovascular health and lung function, as well as promoting healthy bones and teeth.

The Cleveland Clinic warned of five signs of a vitamin D deficiency, which are:
