In a study of more than 4,000 UK volunteers, antibody levels were around 40 percent higher in people who had the Valneva vaccine than in those who had the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab, while Valneva’s also had fewer side-effects.
The Government scrapped the deal for doses last month. Valneva claims it was over an alleged breach of the agreement which it has “strenuously” denied.
The firm still plans to manufacture the vaccine in West Lothian and hopes to see it approved for use in Britain before next year.
