Angelina Jolie Reveals She Has Been Diagnosed With Bell's Palsy

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie has spoken about her high-profile divorce from Brad Pitt and her subsequent health troubles.

The 42-year-old says she was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy last year, which is when the muscles on one side of the face become paralysed. It is caused by the swelling of the facial nerve which interferes with its proper function, and its trigger is unknown, but Better Health says that infection or autoimmune responses are suspected.

Around 90% of sufferers will fully recover with time, Angelina reveals that she used acupuncture to help with the process.

“Sometimes women in families put themselves last until it manifests itself in their own health,” Angelina said.

She also says she has noticed more grey hairs and drier skin.

“I can’t tell if it’s menopause or if it’s just been the year I’ve had,” she said.

When speaking briefly about her divorce, she told the publication that things things became “difficult” in the summer of 2016.

“We’re all just healing from the events that led to the filing. . . . They’re not healing from divorce. They’re healing from some . . . from life, from things in life.”

Symptoms of Bell’s Palsy include paralysis or weakness on one side of the face, pain near the ear, the inability to close one eye, a drooping mouth, a feeling of numbness or heaviness and a change in the taste of food.

If you notice any of the signs, speak to a medical professional.
