The Best Multipurpose Baby Products Moms Need to Steal for Ourselves, Too

Why should babies get all the good stuff? Sure, those chubby little cherubs have sensitive skin and need extra moisturizing (and god forbid there be any chemicals in there), but we moms are sensitive too! And actually, a lot of adults could benefit from using baby products; far too many of our grown-up picks are too full of unpronounceable ingredients and chemicals anyway. So why don’t you treat your body as well as you treat your babies’?

Mamas deserve care, too, and we shouldn’t only be wary of what’s in our skincare when we’re pregnant. But we get that seeing something labeled “baby” makes it seem like babies are the only people who can use it. But it just ain’t true. Spoiler alert: SPF is SPF, regardless of whether it’s on a tiny body or a big one. Same goes for the good-for-you ingredients in plenty of baby oils, nipple butters, baby bubblebaths, and more. Did you know there are countless uses for baby wipes and baby powder?

You deserve all the goodness your tiny tot does, so check out these baby products we’ve rounded up that you are most definitely going to want to steal for yourself.

A balm for your soul — or at least your entire body. This stuff will heal what ails your baby’s head, toes, tush, you name it — and it’s perfect for Mom’s skin problems, too (including pesky eczema). Tubby Todd ointment is made of jojoba, beeswax, and honeysuckle and it’s so natural, it’s even cloth-diaper-safe.

Boudreaux’s “butt paste” sounds like it’s pretty specifically meant for one body part, and one body part alone. BUTT (I had to, I’m sorry) this butt paste does more than just prevent diaper rash and protect irritated skin. It’s laden with zinc oxide, so it’s also great for soothing sunburns, mosquito bites, poison ivy, you name it — if it pisses off your skin, slap some butt paste on it and you’re good to go. Boudreaux’s is super thick, so a little goes a long way, plus it’s free from dyes, petrolatum, preservatives, and parabens.

Nipple butter helps cracked nipple for sure, but it also works wonders on any chapped area of your body, from lips to heels. Just because your nursing days are over doesn’t mean you should put away the nipple butter just yet; keep a jar in your purse for on-the-go relief.

Toddler nail polish is lacking some things that grown-up nail polish is not. Namely: formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, and camphor. Nobody wants all that gross stuff soaking into their nails, and that’s why “toddler” nail polish is actually the best bet for everyone’s nail polish. Bonus: Ella and Mila nail polishes are certified by PETA as animal-cruelty-free and vegan — and they come in a rainbow of colors.

Baby powder is a miraculous thing with a thousand different uses aside from freshening baby’s butt. You can put it in shoes to get rid of foot odor, use it at the beach to get sand off of legs and feet, add a dash to any areas of your body that chafe…the list goes on and on. Baby powder isn’t just for the babes, and you should probably keep a jar in your car.

Natural baby oil (not the petroleum kind) is definitely nourishing for your tot’s sensitive skin, but it’s also an amazing alternative to shaving cream for adults. It’s rich in vitamins and antioxidants — and has apricot and grapeseed oils, which are perfect for keeping razor burn and bumps at bay.

Who says bubble baths are just for kids? Honest makes a plant-based, hypoallergenic bubble bath that’s perfect for kids and adults alike, with lavender essential oil that smells incredible. Added bonus: You can use it as a detergent for hand-washing delicates, or even use it to wash your pets. Talk about a hack.

Baby shampoo, conditioner, and especially detangler should definitely be used by adults as well as kids. How many adults with curly hair have struggled to find a detangler that didn’t leave your hair feeling dirty? Little did you know it was already sitting on your bathroom shelf. SheaMoisture’s shampoo and conditioner, both with coconut oils and mango butter, smell good enough to eat and deliver nourishing hydration to seal open hair cuticles and keep hair tangle- and frizz-free.

All too often, bug spray leaves you feeling gross and smelling even worse. California Baby’s organic bug spray is light, super absorbent, non-toxic, non-chemical, non-invasive and non-irritating. It smells like lemon and citronella, and its ingredients are plant- and vegetable-based, so you can feel good about it being on your skin. Plus it’s incredibly effective and will keep those pesky bloodsuckers away from you and your tots all summer long.
