Gout is caused by a build-up of a substance called uric acid in the body.
Too much uric acid in your bloodstream can cause crystals to form around your joints, which then cause extreme pain.
Gout tends to flare up, causing severe pain for a few days at a time, typically between five days and one week.
These are known as gout attacks and can be excruciatingly painful.
Certain foods can cause high levels of uric acid because the foods themselves contain a substance called purines.
Purines occur naturally in some foods, but when you digest them your body also releases uric acid.
While some foods can trigger attacks of gout, other foods can give you natural relief from the symptoms of gout.
Cherry juice has been noted for reducing the levels of uric acid in your body.
Studies have found both pure cherry juice and cherry juice from concentrate can reduce uric acid in your bloodstream.

It doesn’t have to be cherry juice either, eating a handful of cherries should also have a beneficial effect.
In addition to their gout-fighting capabilities, cherries are a very healthy snack to enjoy.
Many people with gout are advised by their doctor to try their best to shed a few pounds, as extra weight puts more pressure on your joints and makes gout attacks more likely.
Eating more fruits and vegetables instead of other processed and less healthy snacks can help you reach your weight loss goals.
