Heart attacks are serious medical emergencies that require immediate attention from a doctor. You could be at risk of a deadly heart attack – or myocardial infarction – if your fingernails start to curve downwards, over the top of your fingers, it’s been claimed.
Heart attacks are caused by a lack of blood reaching the heart.
Without enough blood, the heart could become seriously damaged – and it may even be life-threatening.
A heart attack could also be a symptom of coronary heart disease, which is where fatty deposits build up in the arteries, which limits the amount of blood reaching the heart.
Your fingernails may the first indicator that you’re at risk of a deadly heart attack.
You may want to consider speaking to a doctor if you notice that your nails have started to grow outwards at the ends of your fingers.
The symptom, which is known as finger clubbing, is accompanied by a downward sloping of the nails.
The larger nails can make your fingertips appear to be bulging, while the ends of your fingers may become warm and red.
It’s believed that clubbing is a result of decreased oxygen levels – which is linked to heart disease.

“Warning signs can appear on your skin and nails, which is why your dermatologist may be the first doctor to notice that you have heart disease,” said the American Academy of Dermatology.
“If you know what to look for, you can also find warning signs of heart disease on your skin and nails.
“Nails curve downward and the ends of your fingers are swollen – what it may be telling you: You may have a heart infection, heart disease, or lung problem.
“For many people, these signs are harmless. That said, if your fingers and nails look like this, it’s best to find out if you may have a medical condition, such as lung disease or a heart problem.”

Meanwhile, you could also be at risk of a deadly heart attack if you notice red or purple lines underneath your fingernail.
These lines will look almost like a web, and they’re caused by tiny blood vessels bursting.
Small splodges of blood become visible underneath the nail.
As the nail grows outwards, these splodges turn into lines of blood, which resemble splinters.
