Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins has been scheduled to undergo surgery to treat her chronic endometriosis, and has pulled out of touring for the next several months.
Endometriosis is a chronic condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows on other parts of the body. It can appear in many different places, including the ovaries, fallopian tubes, the stomach and in or around the bladder and bowel, and there is currently no cure for the condition.
The 28-year-old children’s entertainer said the decision to undergo surgery was “difficult.”
“I have been in a lot of pain or the past couple of years,” she told the Daily Telegraph.
“Put your health first and get a diagnosis so that you are in the best position to managed this crippling disease,” she advised other women.
The singer, actor and dancer married fellow Wiggle Lachy Gillespie two years ago and said her doctor has advised the pair wait at least 12 months to “recover from this surgery” before they try and conceive a child.
Emma will be replaced by an understudy in her upcoming shows.
Wishing her a speedy recovery.
