The book I'm Very Ferris — A Child's Story about in vitro fertilisation initiates a discussion about IVF and makes it relatable through the eyes of a child. Ferris takes you to his little world and its adventures and how he finally came to be.
Mother and children’s author from Illinois, Tess Kossow’s latest book series is unlike what children’s books usually revolve around. Titled I’m Very Ferris, her first ever book is about in vitro fertilisation (IVF) from the perspective of a child.
Kossow’s book is inspired by her son Ferris, who she conceived through IVF after a miscarriage. “Ferris is my last embryo and the answered prayer of faith, love and science through IVF,” she writes in her blog.

Kossow and her husband Dan pursued IVF when their chances of conceiving naturally was less than one per cent. But the couple was devastated when Kossow miscarried after one of their two viable embryos was implanted. They tried again and finally welcomed their son Ferris.
The biggest challenges of IVF, according to Kossow, was the “consistent risk of the unknown”, she told People in an interview. “I’ve come to realise from firsthand experience just how in-depth pregnancy is. And how much it truly can be a miracle to carry a baby and to deliver a baby, and have a healthy baby.”
Kossow’s book is also a stepping stone towards her dream of becoming an entrepreneur. “I made the decision to become a professional children’s picture book writer and compose the I’m Very Ferris series after leaving corporate America and once-and-for-all jumping into the risk of starting my own company,” she mentions in her blog.

“I am a mother, first and foremost, and everything else comes second. I believe you really can have and achieve anything you want…but you are going to have to work for it and expect nothing to be handed to you,” she further writes.
The second book in her series is I’m Very Ferris Takes a Bubble Bath, which as the title suggests, tells a baby’s bath-time story.
