We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there’s no equation for the perfect relationship (although Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds would have us believe otherwise.) There is, however, some undisputable research on the topic.
Take this, for example:
Researchers have found the way you communicate with your partner via text (and vice versa) has huge implications for how satisfied you feel with each other.
For the study (which was published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior), 205 adults between the ages of 18-28 were surveyed about their digital habits, marital status and relationship satisfaction. There were three main consistencies among the happy couples:
1. They text each other similarly often
Ever put time and effort into a literal essay only for it to be met with a one-word reply?! Yeah, it sucks.
Which is why it’s important to establish similar styles in terms of the length of your reponses.
2. They initiated conversations equally as often
Nothing makes you want to throw your phone at a wall more than realising you’re the only one putting in effort.
The fix? Find the balance when it comes to who texts first.
3. They text just to chat
Find yourself checking in with your S.O even when you have nothing of substance to say?
According to the study, “that’s actually a good sign of relationship satisfaction.”
