Following the undeniable success of the first AFLW season which saw large attendance and increased participation in AFL around Australia.
The AFL plans to have a year of consolidation in 2018 before expanding in 2019. Out of the 10 remaining clubs in the league Geelong, North Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda and West Coast will be given priority.
At least two teams will be added to the fixture in 2019 with the Saints and Cats the most vocal in wanting their own AFLW teams.
Just under 200,000 people attended AFLW matches around the country this year with a TV audience of 5.64 million.
