- She reminded fans that “addiction is NO joke” in her post.
- Demi has been through her own public struggles with addiction over the past few years.
Demi Lovato shared a sad update with fans on Instagram: Her friend Thomas died Tuesday after a battle with addiction.
“Devastated. Please hold your loved ones tight. Tell them they are special and that you love them,” she wrote over a photo of Thomas in her Instagram Story. “Make sure they know it. RIP to my boo @sirtruss.”
Demi then urged her followers to get help if they or someone they know is struggling with addiction.“Addiction is NO joke,” she next to another photo of her friend. “Heaven gained this beautiful angel last night because of that terrible disease. I’m crushed and will always miss you @sirtruss. If you or someone you know is struggling please know it’s okay to ask for help.”
Demi has had her own very public battle with addiction. In June 2018, she revealed in the song Sober that she had relapsed after being sober for six years. That July, she suffered a near-fatal overdose, something she spoke out about a month later.“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet,” Lovato wrote in an Instagram post that was later removed.
“I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well,” she continued. “I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side. I will keep fighting.”
